Call For Nominations for 2010 Australian Supply Chain & Logistics Awards

Submissions are now OPEN for the longest running national awards program in the industry. Having served the industry for over fifty years, the Australian Supply Chain & Logistics Awards are the most recognised and esteemed awards for a company to be awarded.

The Supply Chain & Logistics Association of Australia (SCLAA) is proud to present the 2010 Australian Supply Chain and Logistics Awards, with the gala dinner on Thursday the 28^th of October at Luna Park, Crystal Palace, Sydney.

According to Vince Aisthorpe, National Awards Chairman, and “The Australian Supply Chain and Logistics Awards represent industry peer recognition of excellence. The wide range of award categories ensures there are opportunities for all businesses, institutions and individuals of any size or status from across the entire Supply Chain and Logistics spectrum.”

2010 Award Categories

The purpose of this award is to provide incentive and recognition to young professionals who are both currently working in and wish to continue their career path within the Transport, Supply Chain and Logistics Industry. This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase young professionals within our great industry. Finalists will be interviewed by a panel of judges the week leading up to the awards.

2010 ASCL Storage & Handling of Materials Award

This award recognises the significant achievements in the techniques and technology of materials storage and handling at any stage of the Supply Chain. Technology covers equipment and design techniques, including facilities design, and associated information and control systems.

2010 ASCL Training, Education & Development Award

To be presented to the company or institution that best demonstrates a significant achievement in aspects such as recruitment process, training, HR Systems, formal education and development programs which is both relevant to and promotes the Supply Chain and Logistics Industry.

2010 ASCL Information Management Award

This award will go to the business that can best demonstrate it has made a significant achievement in the application of information technology within its Supply Chain.

2010 ASCL Manufacturing Logistics Award

This award recognises significant achievement within the manufacturing sector with regard to the integration of manufacturing and the Supply Chain from raw material procurement through to customer delivery. This may include re-thought, re-engineered Supply Chain, integration of the Supply Chain and manufacturing, improved operations and execution.

2010 ASCL Environmental Excellence Award

This award recognises corporate leadership contributing to the solution of environmental sustainability within our industry through performance and action.

2010 ASCL T&L Industry Excellence Award

This prestigious award recognises and acknowledges the outstanding achievements and contribution by an individual currently working within the Transport, Supply Chain and Logistics Industry. The judges will be looking for individuals who have demonstrated vision and leadership, shows innovation and not afraid to take risks.

2010 ASCL Supply Chain Management Award

The aim of this award is to encourage and acknowledge the outstanding achievement of an organisation that has demonstrated significant achievement in managing the integration of Supply Chains. This could be functional integration within an organisational Supply Chain or more widely across Supply Chains involving several organisations that have formed trading partnerships or alliances. Collaboration and added value across the Supply Chain, achievements gained through outsourcing and the development of new business models could also be demonstrated.

The closing date for submissions for the 2010 Australian Supply Chain & Logistics Awards is close of business on Friday the 3^rd of September.

THE UNSEEN GENDER IN TRANSPORT & LOGISTICS - MAKING WOMEN VISIBLE

Australia’s Transport and Logistics industry is strongly anchored into our pioneer past and back then it was by necessity a male dominated environment.  Today’s Transport & Logistics industry is very different.   Advances in vehicle design, the application of technology and computer systems and the wider expansion into Supply Chain Management have all made the industry equally attractive to both men and women.   So why does the industry still present a barrier to women?  Is it the ‘glass ceiling’ effect? Is it recruitment policies that insist on prior experience or is it a combination of industrial, educational and social factors?

The reality is that today’s Transport & Logistics industry should be an equal career choice for both men and women alike. This report, Making Women Visible, discusses the impediments that are at play and the many options that are available to attract women into the industry.

Sue's full time occupation is as a Supply Chain & Commercial Services Manager for Generic Health, a supplier of key generic medicines directly to pharmacies and hospitals. Suzanne manages the procurement of Generic Health’s full portfolio of pharmaceuticals in addition to managing contracts for warehousing and distribution

She brings over 20 years experience in Supply Chain and logistics, with prior roles in both the Mining & Petroleum industries. Suzanne has had vast experience in managing 3PL/4 PL contracts & operations, pricing, retail and supply chain analysis, and also implementing & teaching SAP. Suzanne has gained invaluable industry knowledge and experience in both exporting and importing products globally.

Supported by a bachelor of Business Administration and post grad qualifications in transport & warehousing, her experience in the Pharmaceutical, Mining & Petroleum Industries has a brought a wealth knowledge to the committee.

The joining of forces for this event is to enhance the relationship between the two associations by continuing the tradition and enabling members of both associations to attend one major event in Melbourne. However this is not just another conference - we are determined to run a practical and affordable event.

CEVA’s Paul Wilkie wins SCLAA Outstanding Student Award

Commentary by Robert Heaton SCLAA Regional Committee Member 

Congratulations to RMIT graduate, Paul Wilkie who has been awarded the SCLAA’s award for most outstanding graduating student in the Bachelor of Business (Logistics & Supply Chain Management) for 2009.

In a discussion with the SCLAA, Paul summed up his thoughts on gaining the award

“I achieved everything that I hoped to during my time at RMIT, it is fantastic that organisations such as the SCLAA recognise and reward students for their efforts. I am very appreciative of the SCLAA for this award, which represents the ‘ icing on the cake’ for me!”

Paul’s motivation for enrolling with RMIT was driven by recognition that working in a warehouse for a small company wasn’t going to fulfill his career aspirations. With this in mind, five years ago at the age of 28 Paul took the plunge and started full time study.  His RMIT Bachelor of Business (Logistics & Supply Chain Management) course included a 12 month work placement with CEVA Logistics, an industry leader that offers customers complete supply chain design and implementation in contract logistics and freight management.

Paul’s work placement obviously impressed CEVA because it wasn’t too long before they offered him a full time position as a Logistics Engineer in their Business Development Team. In his role, Paul works with CEVA customers to ensure they achieve the most efficient and cost effective solution to their logistics needs.  As he points out himself, the costing and business analysis skills he picked up at RMIT come in handy, but he is equally motivated by CEVA’s culture that actively encourages him to learn more.

In his spare time, Paul is a keen cricketer and committee member for the Royal Park Brunswick Cricket Club. For the past 20 years he has also been a passionate Bulldog’s member, which just goes to show that even with a degree and a terrific career we can still make mistakes.

The past couple of years have been very busy with work, cricket and Uni taking their toll so having completed his studies Paul did the next logical thing and got married – just several months ago in January 2010. Obviously a man who firmly believes in properly scheduling activity across the supply chain.

Paul is very happy in his role with CEVA Logistics and proud of his association with RMIT. His focus now is on building his career and gaining as much experience as the world will offer him. He now has some spare time to support his new wife who is finishing her own Masters Degree in Social Work.

On behalf of the Victorian SCLAA I would like to join CEVA Logistics and RMIT in congratulating Paul Wilkie on the hard work that has resulted in this award.
